“[Godin] is a demigod on the Web, a best-selling author, highly sought-after lecturer, successful entrepreneur, respected pundit and high-profile blogger. He is uniquely respected for his understanding of the Internet.” — Forbes.com
I learned about Seth Godin from the courses of last semester and I immediately fell in love with this marketing guru as I entered his website, which is clean and easy to follow. Also, you can find his sense of humor for he encourages visitors to click at his head image to get access to his blog, using his brain as a metaphor to represent his ideas. (Funny but smart!) Seth Godin has managed his own marketing blog integrating with the content of his daily reflection, bestselling books and social media. With great content and great UX, it is not surprising for him to win more than 50 million viewers per month to his website.
So back to the track, why read Seth Godin’s blog instead of spending time on watching online video, filling shopping cart or viewing your friends’ latest status? There are three reasons that make me think his blog worth reading:
1. Daily Marketing-centered Posts
If you are a student who majors in marketing, integrated marketing or all kinds of discipline that relates to marketing. You shouldn’t miss Seth Godin’s post. Most of his posts are his reflection in marketing fields nowadays and sometimes feature with some promotions of his works. Seth Godin is an excellent observer for the marketing trends and current circumstances. Take “The end of geography” as an example, in this post, he talks about how human’s technological innovation has surpassed the geographic boundary and limitations and we marketers shouldn’t held the same perspective as before. Instead, we embrace the world. If you are committed to read the post everyday or even once a week, you might get more than you expect!
2. Learn Marketing And Branding From The Master
The best way to improve your marketing skills and acquire the knowledge faster is to have a mentor, especially the one who has been praised widely in that certain field. In Seth Godin’s blog, one can gain insight by observing how he utilizes social sites to establish personal brand. He provides various channel for viewers to choose so that they can share his post at ease.

In addition, I personally like the way he introduces his books at the right side of the blog. The design of how the books present is pleasant for viewers to use for further reference. Click on the orange slide button and the books list will scroll. This is how marketing should be exerted: informative rather than intrusive.
3. Motivational and Inspirational Words
Even if you are not a marketing major student or marketing professionals, Seth Godin’s blog can still amaze you with his sincere words. What makes me stick to his post is that he speaks objectively but with humanity. After all, what really matters to the marketers is to add values to our customers and we should always think of people. Living in this world facing the unknown future, one might gets frustrated or depressed, and sometimes just need a small piece of encouragement or enlightenment. Yesterday, I read “Almost no one” and get pretty motivated by the fact that we don’t need to please everyone but keep the people (even they are the minority) who like us.
Seth Godin’s blog is like a marketing mine if you determined to discover it, you will get more than you need. Here’s the link to his blog: http://sethgodin.typepad.com and enjoy the mining!
