Watch Out Valentines!

When it comes to Valentine’s Day, nearly every marketers are thinking how to take more money from the consumers by giving them extra delights than usual. After viewing some marketing strategies and promotion among the brands, there are a couple of campaigns that drew my attention.

1. Ford: Speed Dating Prank

This time Ford applies a very different but amusing advertiseming tone to promote its 2015 Ford Mustang. Using a blind date to target on men, asking them to sit on a red Mustang GT and experiencing the ride without noticing it was a trick (or did they know?) is just brilliant. Moreover, It’s groundbreaking to ask Prestin Persson, a female stunt car driver to show her professional car-drive skill in the video and send out the message that girls can drive too! Some male participants in the video even ask Persson whether she want to let him drive the car or keep giving advices. She doesn’t need those offers, actually. This video has been viewed over 10 million times within 2 weeks, so there’s no need to prove how successful it is.

2. Flower Council of Holland: In Case of Love at First Sight

Paris, one of the most romantic places for valentines to spend their day or wait for romance to come. With some flowers, February 14 can be a perfect day. However, people become so busy in working nowadays, it is hard for them to be as romantic as before. Therefore, in order to remind people to show their love to their sweetheart, Flower Council of Holland conducted this campaign not only to boost flourists’ sales but also give Parisians some sweet moments. No matter you have that special one already or just meet the Mr. right around the corner. The emergency rose boxes with “In case of love at first sight, break glass” on it, have been ready for you. (Bisous!)

3. Starbucks: The World’s Largest Starbucks Date

Just one day before February 14, Starbucks and Match.com invited people to participate in the World’s Largest Starbucks Date. On February 13, Starbucks had prepared a special pairings menu for couples from 2 p.m. to the time when they close the store. The followings are the pairings (coffee with cookie) that only cost you $5:

  • Caffé Verona® Coffee Press for Two and a Double Chocolate Chunk Brownie
  • Tall Flat White and Chocolate Croissant
  • Grande Raspberry Mocha or Grande White Chocolate Mocha and Heart Cookie

My friend and I chose the first one and I like the fudgy taste of brownie. Since I’m not a coffee person, I don’t have any comment for Caffé Verona® Coffee Press. However, I do think there’s something Starbucks can improve. When we arrived in the store around 2:30 p.m. and asked for the pairing menu, no staff knows about this promotion. It was not until 3:00 p.m. did those staffs realize Starbucks has Valentines promotion on that day. Maybe that’s the problem of big corporation: lack of direct communication and transparent information.

4. The Adele building: Free Rose for each apartment

This might be a way to keep your residents from moving out your apartment and continue the lease with you. It just makes your tenants feel good and warmth.
